Question by Mrs. Lawlis: What are some pregnancy musts for clothing?
I need cheap, cheap ideas. I have jeans, a dress and overalls.

Can you get away without maternity tops and other things? What do I actually need and what are just non-essentials.

I actually maybe wore just 3 or so tops that were maternity tops, I just wore tops that were about a size bigger, like I wear medium, but while pregnant, I just wore size large and it covers my belly good and looks just as good =o) I got away with not wearing maternity jeans until I was 6 months pregnant, I just used a rubber-band to keep the front together, but as I got bigger they wouldn’t fit my thighs(lol) & the rubber-band was just too tight on my belly… But I only own about 3 pairs of maternity pants I just wash more then usual… A belly band may help you not have to buy maternity jeans at all they slip over the front & around and keep the jeans on you hiding the unbuttoned/unzipped part… GL and Congrats!

I like having one or two fitting maternity shirts. You can always buy bigger tees and tops, but the thing about those is that you look less pregnant than just heavy. When the belly pops out, you will want people to be able to tell you are pregnant and one way to do that is to wear a couple maternity tops. You will likely want heavier weight ones, since you will be biggest through the early winter months. But I say you have a few good staples right now. I would have said one good dress and one good pair of jeans. I have both of those. I also like my maternity black pants. They are comfortable and professional too, so I can use them for many ocassions. A good bra is important too. Not necessarily a maternity or nursing one, but you might find the old bras uncomfortable as your rib cage and breasts expand. I agree with undies too…cotton or ones that are ‘thick’ (not mesh!) because of the discharge increases. I learned that mesh is awful when you have discharge that is heavy. I started wearing the panty liners, but it is still important to have good undies that are a good fit for your behind (which usually grows). And that is all. Unless your shoes stop fitting, in which case, soft ballet shoes are a must.

A pair of black pants, a good pair of maternity jeans, 5-10 tops that make you feel good about yourself, whether they are maternity or just a bigger size, I wore a lot of babydoll tops that were just a size larger than I would normally wear during my pregnancy and I still felt very fashionable. Make sure you get a good bra that will support your breasts, and when the time comes to move on to bigger underwear, get the maternity ones, you’ll be glad you did.

I def think jeans are a must and a couple maternity tops are always nice for those days when you want to KNOW that something is going to fit. Depending on where you live you’ll probably need a sweater type thing to wear over shirts and a jacket that will fit over your belly through the winter. Comfy shoes and underwear are also a must. Oh and a bigger bra. Good luck!

I would check the local resale shops and thrift stores. I hardly bought any new clothes while I was pregnant, but I bought a lot at the resale shops.

You will want at least 2 pair of jeans ( one to wash and one to wear). For really casual stuff you can get mens sweats and t-shirts. For Undies you can actually just buy Hanes undies in a bigger size. I think I wore a 12 ( whatever equaled a 20/22 in clothing).

Just buy stuff as you need it, and can afford it.
