Parenting blunders are bound to happen, particularly when people think no one is watching, or a lapse of judgment is in place. In 2010 tons of things happened that made the rest of us go “What were they thinking?!” Here are the top 10 parenting blunders of last year.
Katy Perry and Her Sesame Street Controversy
This one stood out the most, even to those without little ones. Teenagers found it amusing, while the rest of the world shook their heads and wondered what they were thinking. While it seems innocent enough, Katy is not someone you want on a children’s show, regardless of her dress or cute made up song.
Gisele Bundchen Judging Parents
Gisele had good intentions when she said that “I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.” However, many mothers attacked her lack of logic and felt she was judging mothers that do not breast feed. This law would not go over well, considering some moms are unable to provide healthy breast milk. Not all formula is chemical based either, organic versions are a much better alternative. Sorry Gisele, we don’t see this as a worldwide law anytime soon.
Mommy And Me Pole Dancing
This made mothers do a double take in 2010. A fitness studio in Canada started offering Pole Dancing classes for children. The owner claims that children don’t see it as sexual. However, dancing alone IS a sexual thing, and pole dancing only adds to it.
Amber Portwood “Teen Mom” Losing Her Baby
Amber Portwood was a plump girl on MTV’s hit show, 16 and Pregnant. After Teen Mom she started going down hill. She has reportedly been accused of neglecting her baby, and being abusive towards the father! Her battery charges and loss of her child have made for good entertainment, but is certainly one huge parenting blunder of 2010. She also got a tattoo of Leah (her two year old) on her stomach as a sign of devotion, which is a whole different story.
Hannah Montana, AKA Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus is no longer Hannah Montana, but her racy new attitude, style, and music was all over the news in 2010. Her parents seem to shake their heads and see nothing wrong with her constant need to be sexy, but parents around the world see everything wrong. Miley Cyrus is simply one big parenting blunder of 2010!
Indonesian 18 Month Old Smoker
This little boy took the world by storm, due to his two pack a day cigarette habit. The habit his parents actually ALLOWED to happen! The world was stunned and angered, and worked to stop him from smoking anymore. Current news says that he has indeed, quit.
Baby Product Recalls
These recalls were all over the news throughout 2010. Everything from baby Tylenol to Motrin, cribs, toys, and even FORMULA were recalled! This is one huge (and dangerous) blunder for manufacturers of baby products in 2010.
Alexis & Collin Gosselin
These two famous Gosselin kids physically abused their teacher in 2010, which leads everyone to believe if this was a habit learned at home. Kate’s face must be red – since it is her parenting that caused this to happen! We can’t help but wonder what the other 6 children will do in 2011.
Taylor Momsen Drama
Of course this would be a parenting blunder, since something caused her to be this way and her parents have done little to stop it. In 2010 she reportedly made a sex tape and blamed her parents for everything wrong with her. Her clothing and make up have escalated to new heights of inappropriate attire for someone under 18.
Kid Free Zones In Public
Obviously some places must be kept kid-free, such as clubs and bars. But average restaurants banning children? Now that’s new. It made headlines in 2010, when the Olde Salty restaurant in Carolina Beach, North Carolina said that screaming children would not be tolerated. Other businesses across the country took their cue to do the same. However, it isn’t always a parents fault if their kid is screaming. Maybe they just think the restaurants food is bad.
